The 2020 Rose is primarily made up of pinot noir juice that contributes to the bright and flavorful nose and palate. The cherry cobbler, orange peel, raspberry jam nose quickly opens up to some rose petals and maraschino cherries. The palate is full of complex fruit. The small amount of zinfandel juice was used to create this extensive flavor profile. Blackberry jam, boysenberry, and bing cherry, dominate with sublte hints of orange peel on the back palate. This wine will pair well with a number of different foods but sure to satisfy with some fresh sushi rolls.

FRUIT SOURCE

Three distinct vineyards with two grape varietals make up our 2020 Rose. Two award winning and storied pinot noir producing vineyards. Manchester Ridge is located in the discontinuous Mendocino Ridge AVA, near the Sonoma County line.  This rugged and diverse location is accessible only by timber flanked logging roads, which climb up to 2058 ft elevation. The award-winning Bacigalupi Vineyard (Russian River) now consisting of 125 acres of premium grapes, which have been planted and managed by the family who has roots in the wine industry stretching over four generations. Also Alegria Vineyard in the northern Russian River Valley with a true field blend contributes great character with its famed zinfandel that was originally planted in the 1800s.

VINTAGE NOTES

2020 was a challenging year. Well below average rainfall through the winter we had early bud break throughout frost season. Then you throw a pandemic in the middle and finish it off with an intense fire season and you can say that every ounce of mental and physical energy was put into the wines we created. Luckily for the consumer, there were short yields and extra stress put onto the vines. This creates more intense fruit flavors that shine through all of our wines. We were able to harvest all of our fruit before the fires could put any harm to the fruit and the natural acidity is left to shine!

WINEMAKING TECHNIQUES

10-15% bleeds are preformed once our fruit comes in and put into tank. This technique is called “saignée", which is French for “bleed” and involves taking the juice before the skins can release color into the juice. This technique helps concentrate the juice to skin ratio on all of our pinot noirs, and the by product is a beautiful pink colored rosé. Fermented in stainless steel drums till dry we halt secondary fermentation halfway through to impede malolactic. This helps retain some of the bright fruit characters such as raspberry, strawberry and Bing cherry.
