WINEMAKER NOTES
A dynamic wine, the nose shows strawberry, raspberry jam, cherry pie, accompanied by soft floral expressions of rose petals. This light-body wine shows balanced acidity and fruit with notes of cherry cobbler, strawberry jam, cantaloupe, rhubarb, candied cherries, and a nice raspberry zing finish, making it a perfect summer sipper. It is mouth filling while lingering on the palate. While most rosé wines start to lose some of the characteristics almost immediately, this wine only gets better as it opens up.

FRUIT SOURCE
Five distinct vineyards with two grape varietals make up our 2019 Rose. Three award winning and storied pinot noir producing vineyards; Suacci Vineyard is a 6.5-acre vineyard planted on south facing slopes of the Sebastopol Hills in Blucher Valley in Russian River Valley AVA. Manchester Ridge is located in the discontinuous Mendocino Ridge AVA, near the Sonoma County line.  This rugged and diverse location is accessible only by timber flanked logging roads, which climb up to 2058 ft elevation. The award-winning Bacigalupi Vineyard (Russian River) now consisting of 125 acres of premium grapes, which have been planted and managed by the family who has roots in the wine industry stretching over four generations.  Two new vineyards to our 2019 lineup were added to the 2019 rose, these are our Madden Family Vineyards extraordinary Merlot, where some of the lush round fruit tones portray from. Also our new SLH Pinot Noir from beautiful Santa Lucia Highlands that brings delicate but pretty floral expressions.

VINTAGE NOTES
2019 started out with a long winter, bringing and abundance of rain that went well into spring. This resulted in a late bloom and slower but longer growing season. We were about 2 weeks behind average expected harvest dates. The pros to this was that we retained more natural acidity in the grapes and were able to capture more of our late summer sunshine to develop flavors. The vintage proved to bring some stellar grapes in through the door and produced some quality wines packed with lots of fruit flavors and bright, fresh acidity. The fires of 2019 did not affect any of our wines as we were fully in tank and barrel by the time they arrived.

WINEMAKING TECHNIQUES
10-15% bleeds are preformed once our fruit comes in and put into tank. This technique is called “saignée,” which is French for “bleed” and involves taking the juice before the skins can release color into the juice. This technique helps concentrate the juice to skin ratio on all of our pinot noirs, and the by product is a beautiful pink colored rosé. Fermented in stainless steel drums till dry. We halt secondary fermentation halfway through to impede malolactic. This helps retain some of the bright fruit characters such as raspberry, strawberry and Bing cherry.
