WINEMAKER NOTES
2021 Rose is made from 100% Pinot Noir. Upon opening, your nose will be engulfed with floral components of dried rose petals and cherry blossoms. It will open up to fruit tones of raspberry jam and orange peel. The palate is rich from start to finish with characters of apricot, peach, raspberry, and strawberries. The finish lingers heavy on the strawberry and white peach. This wine will pair well with a number of different foods and will be sure to satisfy with some fresh sushi rolls.
FRUIT SOURCE
Two distinct award winning and storied pinot noir producing vineyards and three different pinot noir clones make up our 2021 Rose. Manchester Ridge, which is located in the discontinuous Mendocino Ridge AVA, near the Sonoma County line. This rugged and diverse location is accessible only by timber flanked logging roads, which climb up to 2058 ft elevation. The award-winning Bacigalupi Vineyard (Russian River) now consisting of 125 acres of premium grapes, which have been planted and managed by the family who has roots in the wine industry stretching over four generations.
VINTAGE NOTES
2021 turned into a great growing season. Despite entering into the second year of drought like conditions, the vines had a nice long growing season with below average yields. The result was smaller clusters and smaller berry size and lots more flavors. The intensity of all of the fruit was extremely concentrated and delivers bright and rich fruit characters. We were blessed to avoid a fire season which has caused overwhelming stress in the years past. A couple heat waves that came in late in the season challenged us on picking decisions with sugar spikes but acidity staying elevated. We were fortunate to be patient and monitor our irrigation practices early to extend our hang time and the result will be sure to please the consumer.
WINEMAKING TECHNIQUES
10-15% bleeds are preformed once our fruit comes in and put into tank. This technique is called “saignée,” which is French for “bleed” and involves taking the juice before the skins can release color into the juice. This technique helps concentrate the juice to skin ratio on all of our pinot noirs, and the by product is a beautiful pink colored rosé. Fermented in stainless steel drums till dry. We halt secondary fermentation halfway through to impede malolactic. This helps retain some of the bright fruit characters such as raspberry, strawberry and Bing cherry.
